Edith "Edie" Bacchetta, 99

 

Edith (Bonanni) Bacchetta, 99, passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2025 at home. She was born and raised in Boonton and remained a life-long resident.

A 1942 graduate of Boonton High School, Edie was a legal secretary for 42 years, working for a number of Boonton lawyers including her son, Bernard. She was a former member of the Morris County Legal Secretaries Association. Edie was a past chairperson of the Boonton Board of Adjustment and served on the Community Dispute Resolution Committee for Boonton and Lincoln Park. She was elected to serve on the Boonton Charter Study Committee. She served as Senior Citizen Liaison to the Boonton Board of Education Task Force Committee and Citizens Advisory Committee. Edie was a 66 year member and Past President of the Boonton Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was a life-long member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Edie was a member of the Boontonites and Friendship Club. She proudly served as the Grand Marshall of the 2021 Boonton Christmas Parade.

Edie was predeceased by her beloved husband of 67 years, Alfred Bacchetta. She was the devoted mother of Bernard, and his wife Barbara, Alfred (Fred) and his wife Emilie, cherished grandmother of Michael (Anna), Stephanie Giovine (Anthony), Daniel, Mark (Cynthia), Stephen, Sara, and Michelle Hopkins (Connor) and great-grandmother to Avaea, Alexio, Adriano, Aviana, Alexander and Andrew. She was predeceased by her parents, Eusebio and Rosa Bonanni, her sister, Yolanda Bonanni, and her brother, Gabriel Bonanni.

Visitation will be Sunday, January 5, 2025 from 2 - 6 pm at Dangler Lewis and Carey Funeral Home, 312 West Main Street in Boonton.

A Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday January 6th at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 910 Birch Street in Boonton.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Edith’s name to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
