Obituary of Emily F. Romano


Emily F. Romano, nee Van Duyne, passed away on September 12th 2021 at the age of 96. She was born in Boonton, New Jersey on December 28, 1924 where she lived most of her life before moving to The Oaks at Denville in 2014. She loved to write poetry and is known for her prize- winning haiku. Her first publication appeared in Modern Haiku in 1969. Since then, more than 6000 of her haiku have appeared in various publications.


Emily was predeceased by her loving husband Michael Romano, whom she was married to for 72 years.  She is survived by her 4 devoted daughters, Margaret R. Smith and husband Richard Smith III, Janice E. Turner and her husband William Turner, Martha J. Romano, and Carol M. Kelly, and five cherished grandchildren,   Richard Smith IV,  Michael Smith and wife Melanie,  Mathew Alan Turner and wife Tabitha,  Jennifer Turner-Dold and wife Jessica , Melissa Rose Kelly and fiancée Catherine Paige Weeks as well as 3 darling great grandchildren, Emily Thompson, Moriah R. Kelly and Avery Turner-Dold.


Services will be private at the family’s request.
