Obituary of Robert James Whritenour

Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert James Whritenour Jr. 85, "Bob" of Boonton Robert James Whritenour Jr. 85, "Bob" of Boonton, passed away on December 31, 2017 at St. Clare's Hospital in Denville, surrounded by his loving family. Bob was born and raised in Butler, NJ and was a 1951 graduate of Butler High School. While attending Montclair State College he was drafted into the United States Army during The Korean War, and proudly served his country from 1953-1955. Upon Bob's return to civilian life, he met and married Theresa (Venito), and settled in Boonton where he resided for the past 60 years. Prior to his retirement, Bob worked as a lineman/system technician for New Jersey Bell, working out of Bell Laboratories in Whippany, NJ. He was a member of the IBEW local 827. Active with the Knights of Columbus Walter J. Barrett Council 1954 in Boonton; the American Legion, John A. Dean Post 154 Butler, NJ and Post 279, in Lincoln Park. Bob served as a past president and board member for the BMLRV Baseball Association. From 1981-1994, he volunteered as a team member for the Boonton High School Marching Band Pit Crew; was a founding member of Cub Scout Pack 201, and also a founding member and president of the Boonton High sports boosters where he served from 1973 until 1983. He involved himself with the Boonton and Morris County Republican Committees. Was an usher for many years at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. An avid Yankee fan, he enjoyed many a ball game at the stadium with his son's and father while they all rooted for the win. His fondest memories were passing on his love of classic movies to his children and he would spend countless hours and years of involvement dedicated to teaching his sons and their friends, life's lessons, the games of basketball, baseball and golf-- then watching them perform and execute on the playing field, on the stage or in any endeavor they pursued. He took great pride watching and hearing about all his Grandchildren's many activities and vast achievements either in the classroom, during performances on stage, or athletically. Affectionately known to all of his son's and grandchildren's friends as Pop Writ, he would always have a smile or word of encouragement for them all. Bob leaves his beloved wife of 60 years, Theresa; his caring sister Jacquelin Bausch; his 8 loving sons and their wives: Robert and Carol, Larry, Jim, Joseph and Robin, John and Lori, Michael and Kacy, Frank and Danielle, David and Amy; and Valerie Whritenour; his 23 precious grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents Robert J. and Susan (Roach) Whritenour Sr., and his daughter-in-law Kim (Larry). Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 7-9pm and Friday, January 5, 2018 from 2-7pm at the Dangler Lewis and Carey Funeral Home, 312 West Main Street Boonton, NJ 07005. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 11:00am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 910 Birch Street, Boonton, NJ.
