Obituary of Gerhard J. Franke

Gerhard J. Franke, 90 Boonton Twp., New Jersey Gerhard Franke, 90 years old, passed away Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Hackettstown Hospital. He was born in Chemnitz, Germany and was a lifelong resident of Boonton. Gerhard proudly served in the US Coast Guard , during the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters, of WWII. He was a member of the Boonton VFW Gus Ginder post 242, the Sokol Club, the Boonton 76ers club, and with the US Postal Union, of Boonton. Gerhard was also active with the Boonton Bowling League and also participated in semi-pro football with the Panthers & Crusaders teams. Mr. Franke was employed with the US Postal service of Boonton for 33 years. Gerhard was the beloved husband of the late Mary (nee Bolcar); loving father of Martin and his wife Patricia; Susan Franke; Kurt and his wife Judy; Robert and his wife Lei; Carol Rathgeb and her husband William; Richard and his wife Joyce; beloved brother of the late Herbert Franke; cherished grandfather of 16; and dear great-grandfather of 8. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 8, 2013 at Dangler Lewis and Carey Funeral Home, 312 West Main St. in Boonton at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Boonton.
