Obituary of Helen Mae Blanchard

Helen Mae Blanchard, 94 , passed away on November 22, 2012, at Regent Care in Hackensack. She was born and raised in Boonton living in Fairlawn before moving to Hackensack in 2008. Helen graduated from the Boonton school system, receiving a B.A. from Wellesey College, a M.A from Montclair State College and further graduate work at Mount Holyoke College (resident fellow) and Rutgers College. Helen was a teacher and guidance counselor in Mountain Lakes High School and Fair Lawn High School before retiring as the Director of Guidance at Northern Highlands Regional High School. She was President of N.H.E.A; Representative of N.E.A.; Representative Assembly; Secretary to N.J.P&G Association, Committee member of Bergen County Guidance Association, Committee Chairperson for B.C.E.A. and N.J.E.A., Advisory Committee to Rutgers Admissions Office, Advisory Committee for Bergen Community College Lab. Tech Program, Member of the Hotline of Fair Lawn Mental Health Association, Board of Directors of East Bergen Teachers Federal Credit Union, R.S.V.P. of Bergen County, Ridgewood Wellesley College Club, and the Founders Group of Jane Miller Baker Institute of Wellesley College. Helen was a member of the local, county, state and national education and guidance associations, Life member of NJEA, NJREA, NEAR, and NJ Woman's Club. The American Personal and Guidance Assoc, Bergen County Directors of Guidance, Bergen County Professional Guidance Association and former member of Zonta and Delta Kappa Gamma. Helen was a member of the Boonton First Presbyterian Church and the Fair Lawn Bible Church. Helen was the loving aunt of John Dorsey, Jean Kuhl, and Tricia Vanderhoof and her husband "Dutch" Thomas Vanderhoof. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM only with a Funeral Service at 2:00 PM, at Dangler Lewis& Carey Funeral Home, 312 West Main Street in Boonton.
