Alfred G. Bacchetta, 90 Boonton, NJ Alfred G. Bacchetta, 90, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at St. Clares Hospital in Denville. He was born and raised in Boonton and remained a lifelong resident there. Al was a carpenter for Local 620 in Madison for 60 years and worked for Clemco in New Providence. He proudly served in the US Army during WWII as a sergeant and was part of the 116th Medical Evacuation unit which liberated Dachau Concentration Camp, and converted it into a US hospital. He received the World War II Victory Medal. Al was a member of the Boonton Knights of Columbus Walter J. Barrett Council 1954, past president of the Boontonites Senior Club, past president of the South Boonton Field Club, and a member of Boonton VFW post 242. Al was an Usher for Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, in Boonton, for 57 yrs and a member of Maxfield Hose & Engine Company #1 of the Boonton Fire Dept. He was selected in 1998 as Citizen of the Year by the Town of Boonton and 1999 Citizen of the Year by the Lakeland Hills YMCA. He was one of the few volunteers to assist in the planning of the Boonton Senior Citizen Center. Al was the Grand Marshall in 2005 for the Boonton Labor Day Parade. He also worked for Lewis & Carey Funeral Home for many years. Al was the beloved husband, of 67 years, to Edith Bacchetta (nee Bonanni), devoted father of Bernard Bacchetta and his wife Barbara, Alfred Bacchetta (Fred) and his wife Emilie; loving brother of Angelinia Bonanni; and the late Augustine Bacchetta, Sara Beradino, Antoniotte Pastoriza, Nancy DeLucia, Doris Mazzei, and Carmella Makowski; cherished grandfather of Michael, Stephanie, Daniel, Mark, Stephen, Sara, Michelle and great grandfather of Avaea, Alexio, and Adriano. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 05, 2015 at 8:30 AM at Dangler Lewis and Carey Funeral Home, 312 West Main St., in Boonton; with a 9:30 am Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 910 Birch St., in Boonton. Interment will follow to St. Mary's Cemetery, in Boonton. Visiting will be on Sunday, January 4, 2015 from 3-7 PM at the funeral home.
