John Spindler passed away on February 21, 2014 after a short illness. He was born on June 26, 1952 in Livingston, New Jersey. As a resident of Wayne Marathon House in Wayne, New Jersey, the Barnet House in Pompton Lakes, New Jersey and most recently the Preakness Health Care Center in Wayne, New Jersey, John enjoyed the friendship of his fellow residents including his good friend David. John participated in Special Olympics for many years, enjoyed rock music and loved to dance. In 2002 John was selected "Community Star" by the Department for Persons with Disabilities of the Diocese of Patterson and recognized by the New Jersey Association of Community Providers. John was fortunate to have the kindness and companionship of Mike Renaldo and his wife Barbara for many years; John's outings with Mike were always a special time. John, his sister Carolyn and his niece Chloe enjoyed their long-distance pen-pal relationship, keeping in contact with notes and cards. John's life was greatly enhanced by his long-time champion and legal guardian Michael DiLella. John was predeceased by his parents, Frederick and Pauline Spindler. He is survived by his Spindler family who are forever grateful to those who cared for and loved John. Visiting will be Wedesday, February 26, 2014 from 10-11AM at Dangler Lewis & Carey Funeral Home, 312 West Main St. in Boonton, New Jersey with funeral services thereafter at 11:00AM. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, New Jersey. Letters of condolences may be posted at www.Danglerlewisandcareyfuneralhome.com.
