Obituary of Carmelo Sgro

Carmelo Sgro Jr. “Charlie”, 87 Boonton, NJ Carmelo Sgro Jr., known as “Charlie”, passed away on May 31, 2013 at St. Clares Hospital, in Dover. He was 87 yrs old. He was born in Calabria, Italy and raised in Cliffside Park NJ; living in Fairview, Fort Lee, Chester and then moving to Boonton nine years ago. Charlie proudly served in the US Army during WWII for Company G 317th Infantry Regiment 80th Division, Technician Fourth Grade and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. For his service to our Country he was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the European-African- Middle Eastern Campaign Medal. He embarked on a 35 year career in Education as a teacher at Teaneck High School, where he quickly advanced to the position of Vice Principal. Charlie was also a member of the NJ Education Association. Carmelo was the beloved husband of Pauline (nee Zigrossi) of 59 loving years; loving father of Carmel Decker, Chip Sgro and his wife Kim, and the late Barbara Ann Savarese and loving father-in-law of Thomas Savarese; dear brother of Vincent Sgro and cherished grandfather of Matthew, Ryan, William and Hayley. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Dangler Lewis and Carey Funeral Home, 312 West Main St. of Boonton, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Catherine of Siena Church, in Mt. Lakes at 12:00 Noon. Interment will follow at Rockaway Valley Cemetery, in Boonton. Family and friends may visit on Monday from 5-9 PM at the funeral home. Letters of condolences may be posted at www.Danglerlewisandcareyfuneralhome.com.
