Rudolph L."Rudy" Verdi, 94, of Boonton Rudolph L. "Rudy" Verdi, 94, Of Boonton passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Merry Heart of Boonton Township. Rudy was born and raised in Boonton and was a lifelong resident. Visitation will be held TODAY, Tuesday, April 25, 2017 from 7-9 PM ONLY at The Dangler Lewis and Carey Funeral Home, 312 West Main Street Boonton, NJ 07005. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at 9:30 AM, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 910 Birch Street, Boonton, NJ. Interment will follow immediately at St. Mary's Cemetery in Boonton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Rudy's honor to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Rudy worked for many years as a human relations assistant with the Veteran's Administration before retiring. Rudy proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. Rudy was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal, the Asiatic – Pacific Theater Medal and the Phillipine Liberation Ribbon. Rudy was further awarded the New Jersey Distinguished Medal in 2001. Rudy was named the2015 Mountain Lakes Memorial Day Grand Marshall, and was featured in the September 2015 edition of Mountain Lakes Living. Rudy was the unofficial Mayor of Merry Heart Nursing Home. Rudy was a member of the Boonton Knights of Columbus, a lifetime member of VFW Gus Ginder Post 242, where he served as Post Commander, and the Boonton Historical Society. He also sang in a Barber Shop Quartet. Rudy was an usher at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. He loved gardening, traveling, dancing and trips to Atlantic City. Rudy was predeceased by his siblings Louise Lizzi, Jennie Morra, Carmen, Anna LoRusso, James, Columbus and Rose Verdi. Rudy is survived by his nephews Vincent Verdi, Frank LoRusso, Arthur Verdi, Michael LoRusso and James Joseph Verdi; his nieces Coni de Bruyn Kopps, and Theresa Keezer. He was predeceased by Flora DeSantis and James Verdi. Rudy leaves 22 great nieces and nephews and many great - great nieces and nephews.
