Obituary of John Wallace Tidaback

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

John W. Tidaback, known to many as “Jack”, passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on November 30, 2024. Jack was the beloved husband of Marilyn Tidaback for 66 years. A devoted father to his daughters, Teresa M. Vilagos and her husband Joe, and Gabrielle T. Bohon and loving grandfather to Kenny Vilagos and his wife Emma, Holly Vilagos, Anastasia Bohon, and Lily Bohon. He is also survived by his sister Helene Davis, his brother-in-law Charles Cirrito, and eight nieces and nephews, their spouses and children. Born on August 14, 1934, in Newark, NJ, Jack was the beloved son of the late Wallace and Eleanor “Eileen” Tidaback. Jack was preceded by his sister Carol Forsythe and his niece Leigh Ann Davis.

Jack's family was his greatest joy, but he also had a passion for reminiscing and was an avid fan of the NJ Devils. He enjoyed sharing stories about his childhood and working at his father's lumberyard. A proud Army veteran, Jack delighted in showing his visitors his Army scrapbook, where he was honored as a “Blue Nose” for his time spent at the Arctic Circle. His contributions were recognized by The American Legion Post 86 in Cornelius, NC, with a certificate of honor.

Jack dedicated over 30 years of his career to NJ Bell, which later became Verizon, before retiring and dedicating his time to his grandchildren. His commitment and hard work were greatly valued by his coworkers.

The family extends their sincere appreciation to the caring and compassionate Home Health and Hospice teams of Atlantic Visiting Nurses, Morristown, NJ, and Via HealthPartners, Davidson, NC.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:30 AM at Dangler Lewis & Carey Funeral Home, 312 West Main Street in Boonton. A private interment will be held immediately following.
