Obituary of Al Norman IV

Please share a memory of Al to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Alpheus Joseph Norman IV

Alpheus Joseph Norman IV (“Al”) passed away peacefully at his home in Lavallette, New Jersey on October 29, 2024, after a three and a half year battle with cancer.  Al was born in East Orange, NJ and spent his childhood years growing up in Livingston, NJ, as the oldest of four children.  He graduated from University of Delaware and earned an MBA from Seton Hall University, leading him to a successful career in commercial banking and financial consulting.  He met his wife, Jeneene, when they worked together at one of the forerunners of what became PNC Bank, the greatest benefit that job gave to each of them.  They settled in Montville Township, NJ, where they lived for almost 40 years, and had one son, Garrett, who has been their pride and joy.

Al loved playing sports when he was young and became a diehard fan of the NY Giants (he was a season ticket holder for over 40 years) and the NY Yankees.  He also loved the beach, which was his “happy place.”  He thoroughly enjoyed the summer shore house he and Jeneene bought in Lavallette and to which they moved full-time after retiring.  As the fourth Alpheus J Norman, he was very interested in researching his family’s history and he pursued that passion throughout his adulthood, meeting other Normans with whom he stayed in touch.  One of the greatest joys of Al’s life was becoming a grandfather to Brigid in 2020 and her younger sister Annabelle in 2022. They were his very best medicine throughout his long illness.

Al will be remembered by all who knew him as a very good, gentle, caring and generous person with a great sense of humor.  He was very principled, a devout Catholic, and always remained true to his core values.

He is survived by his wife Jeneene; his son Garrett, daughter-in-law Lindsi, and granddaughters Brigid and Annabelle; his siblings Gary, Mark, and Nancy; his nephews David, Peter, Michael, and Evan; his great aunt Betty Anne and many cousins.  He was also blessed to have many good friends who became family as well.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00-5:00pm  and Monday from 9:00-11:00am at Dangler Lewis & Carey Funeral Home, 312 West Main Street, Boonton, NJ.  A funeral mass will take place Monday at 11:30am at St Pius X Church, 24 Changebridge Road, Montville, NJ.  Entombment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 225 Ridgedale Avenue, East Hanover, NJ.
