Obituary of Shirley Grant

Please share a memory of Shirley to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Shirley K. Grant passed away peacefully on August 18th, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 22, 1933, to Hobart and Marion DeHart, Shirley was raised in Mountain View, New Jersey. She graduated from Pompton Lakes High School in 1951. In 1956, Shirley moved to Boonton, where she lived a full and vibrant life. She was employed at Hewlett-Packard, dedicating 19 years before retiring.

Shirley was an active member of the Boontonities and the Friendship Clubs in Boonton, where she forged lifelong friendships. Beyond her community involvement, Shirley had a deep passion for bull riding and country music, which brought her joy and a connection to the simpler, more heartfelt pleasures of life. Her greatest love, however, was for her family, whom she cherished above all else.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, William C. Grant; her son, Gary Davenport; her parents; and her grandmother, Kittie Jacobus.

Shirley’s legacy lives on in her 5th-generation family, which was her pride and joy. She leaves behind her children: Lawrena Giordano (and Bill Landole), Christina Cumbia (daughter of the late Gary Davenport), Donald Grant (and his wife Carol), and Teresa Szabo (and her husband Dennis). She was also a devoted grandmother to 6 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense pride and happiness.

Shirley’s love for her family, her community, and the life she built will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her.
