Thomas Anthony Bochinsk, Jr.

October 30, 1946 - January 8, 2024

Thomas Anthony Bochinski, Jr., 77, of Boonton, NJ, passed away on January 8, 2024 at Saint Clare’s Hospital in Denville, NJ, following a brief illness.

Tom was born at All Souls Hospital in Morristown, NJ to Thomas A. Bochinski Sr. and Caroline M. Bochinski (nee: McCormick) on October 30, 1946. He went to high school at Morris Catholic and graduated in 1964. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from La Salle University in Philadelphia, PA in 1968. After college, he entered the US Army and served as a medic, during which time he was stationed in San Antonio Army Medical Hospital, South Korea and Germany.  When he was discharged, he took courses at Rutgers University and began a career as a histologist, which spanned several decades, and culminated at Chilton Memorial Hospital in Pequannock, from which he retired after 23 years of employment.

Even though Tom was a very quiet person, he was a wealth of knowledge.  Every time you talked to him he shared so much family history, European history, and had a vast knowledge of plants and gardening, which was his passion. He loved the natural environment.  In his free time he enjoyed hikes in “the Tourne” of Morris County, and prided himself on the garden he cultivated at home on Fulton Ave. in Boonton. He also played the glockenspiel and was a member of the Harmony Senior Drum Corps of Boonton, alongside his father and brothers in the 1960’s and 1970’s.

Tom is survived by his beloved brothers and sisters John A. of Boonton, Cecilia Kunath of Teaneck, Alice Birney of Rockaway, Frank A. of San Marcos, CA, William A. of Hillsborough, and Miriam Fasone of Tamarac, FL, as well as many nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his brothers Philip A., who died in 1995, and Edward A., who died in 2023.

Tom was a private person, and his wish to not have any services is being honored.  Burial is to be attended by family only.  In lieu of donations, please plant something to watch bloom and grow in memory of Tom.
