Obituary of Matthew Francis Bednar

Please share a memory of Matthew to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Matthew Francis Bednar, 87, of Montville

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to a wonderful man, yet knowing he will be met with many family and friends makes it easier. Matt passed away peacefully on July 21, 2021.

Matt was born in Boonton and resided in Montville for all of his adult life. He played shortstop for Boonton High School, loved to play hockey at Riverside A/C, was a big fan of Hank Williams, Sr., and was a great yodeler. Matt loved turkey and pierogies. Matt was an avid Brooklyn Dodger fan.

Matt worked for many years for Joseph Bednar and Sons Builders. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1954-1962.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 26, 2021 from 4-8 PM at the Dangler, Lewis and Carey Funeral Home, 312 West Main Street, Boonton, NJ 07005. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Saint Pius X Church, 24 Changebridge Road, Montville, NJ 07045. Interment will follow immediately at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Cemetery, Boonton, NJ., with Military Honors.

Matt was the beloved husband of 64 years to Lois (White) Bednar; loving father of Joseph  (Debbie), Matthew,  Patricia Gonzalez, Gary, John, Mary Del Vecchio ( Christian) and Maureen Laverty (fiancé Kenny Zaun); cherished grandfather of Parker (Madison), Christina Gonzalez, Shauen Laverty (Lindsey), Amanda Colucci, and Alexander (Brendan). Adored great grandfather of Frankie Chiocca, Macy Gonzalez and Lucian Gonzalez; sister Marion Bentley and sister-in-law Mary Lou Bednar. Matt was predeceased by sister Gladys Jarombek, brothers Francis, Joseph, James and Eugene.
