Obituary of Anne Mary Scerbo

Please share a memory of Anne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Anne Mary “Anni” Scerbo drew her last breath on February 12, 2021.  Born on February 22, 1954 with a highly developed funny bone, Anni could have you stifling a giggle in church or spraying soda from your nose at a fancy restaurant with a well-timed, unforeseen quip.  What she lacked in stature (at 4’11”), she made up for in humor and heart.  It was easy to find her in a gathering by seeking the laughter.

A natural in hospitality, Anni spent most of her working life in restaurants as a waitress, bartender, hostess and manager.  Her quick wit, desire to please, and sense of fairness made her friends of co-workers and regulars alike.

Anni is predeceased by her beloved father, Alfonse Scerbo, whom she often joined at political events when he was a Morris County Freeholder and County Clerk.  She is survived by her dear mother, Lucille of Boonton; her sister Kitty Waitt (and husband Douglas) of New Hampshire; niece Iris Waitt of New Hampshire; foster sister Maria Bermudez of San Francisco.  Genie Perea Bermudez of Argentina died in 2016.

Anni would most like to be remembered for lightening the world with laughter.  To honor her, please share a joke with someone in line or at a bar, blast Janis Joplin, sing along to the Wizard of Oz or donate to Special Olympics.

A Private Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 910 Birch Street, Boonton, NJ 07005. Arrangements are under the direction of the Dangler, Lewis and Carey Funeral Home, 312 West Main Street, Boonton, NJ 07005.
