Doris Lounsberry Bartro, 93, died March 31, 2018 peacefully in her sleep, at home, surrounded by her loving family. She now joins her predeceased husband of 47 years, Ken, in eternal Light.
The matriarch of her family, she lived a long, happy life and considered her greatest accomplishments to being a mother of 8 children and graduating from Newark Presbyterian Hospital with a nursing degree in 1946.
Starting her nursing career in 1946 she was a “cadet nurse” for soldiers returning from World War II at Fort Dix, N.J. where she met her future husband.
Doris worked as a nurse in Saddle Brook Hospital, Head nurse of ICU/CCU at Riverside Hospital and an ICU unit nurse at Morristown Memorial Hospital, where she helped countless patients in her long career.
She will be joining her predeceased parents Frank and Margaret and brother Frank.
She is survived by a sister Lorraine and her husband Ted. Her 7 daughters and sons in law: Peggy and Harold, Kathy and Mike, Lorraine and Dan, Joan and Keith, Barbara and Corbett, Chris and Joey, Laura and Jim and a son Ken, her 16 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Dangler Lewis and Carey Funeral Home 312 West Main Street in Boonton, NJ 07005.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Saint Pius X Church 24 Changebridge Road Montville, NJ 07045. Interment will follow to Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Doris’s name to Montville Township animal shelter.195 Changebridge Road Montville, NJ 07045.
