John C "Jack" Selesky Obituary

John “Jack” C. Selesky

Beloved father, proud grandfather, uncle, neighbor, godfather, cousin, dear friend, and devout Catholic.

John “Jack” C. Selesky, 86, passed away on November 24, 2025, at The Jack and Sheryl Morris Cancer Center at Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center, surrounded by his children, granddaughter, and dear friend while receiving the Last Rites from his beloved longtime family friend, Father Richard Carton.

Jack was born on October 21, 1939, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, to Alice (Lacomis) Selesky and Frank Selesky. He was raised in Avoca, PA, and spent much of his childhood at the home of his grandparents, Agnes and Stanley Selesky, in the Marvine neighborhood of Scranton. He attended Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Dupont, PA, and was a proud graduate of Avoca High School, Class of 1957.

In 1960, Jack moved to New Jersey but made regular trips back to his “home in The Valley,” never missing the Polish Picnic at Sacred Heart every summer.

He was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Boonton, NJ. Jack married the love of his life, Theresa Porzio, on May 12, 1963, at Saint Catherine of Siena Church in Mountain Lakes, NJ. They shared 58 beautiful years of marriage until her passing in 2021. They treasured countless wonderful moments in their home with Adriane and John and many friends and family.

Jack honorably served in the Army National Guard from 1959–1965.

Throughout his life, he worked for Marotta Controls in Boonton, Foster Wheeler in Livingston, Lex Depp Cadillac, and Jack Trebour Ford. He was also a longtime and dedicated member of a local gun club.

For the last quarter century of his life, Jack’s greatest joy was spending time with his granddaughters. He loved going on family cruises and being with friends. He enjoyed attending Mass, visiting car shows, watching football, browsing flea markets, studying WWII history, wandering through The Book Barn in Denville, watching car races, fishing, trying new restaurants, and sitting on his front porch admiring the mountains and the yard he maintained with meticulous pride.

Jack was predeceased by his parents, Frank (1982) and Alice (2000); his beloved wife, Theresa (2021); his sister-in-law, Rose Ann Porzio (2009); and his great-niece, Emily Montione (2025).

He is survived by his daughter, Adriane Selesky Eoga (Michael Eoga) of Boonton; his son, John D. Selesky (Leisha) of Blairstown; and his cherished grandchildren: Dr. Jenna Emilia Eoga PT, DPT; Juliana Marie Eoga; Kara Marie Selesky; and Carly Rose Selesky. He is also survived by his beloved nephew and godson, Robert Montione, and his family; his great-nephew, Thomas Montione; and many cousins and godchildren.

The Selesky family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Arthur Sheppell, Jack’s physician since 1986, and to Dr. Dean Licopantis, Dr. Jason Levitz, Dr. Joanna Rhodes, and the many healthcare workers who lovingly cared for him.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 30, 2025, from 2:00–6:00 PM at Dangler, Lewis and Carey Funeral Home, 312 West Main Street, Boonton, NJ 07005.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 1, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 910 Birch Street, Boonton, NJ 07005, with Father Richard Carton officiating.

Inurnment with his beloved wife will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Boonton in early 2026.

In lieu of flowers, and in honor of Jack’s profound love of the Catholic Mass, the family kindly requests Memorial Masses at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Boonton or at the Catholic church of your choice.
