Saudhi Lopez Obituary

Saudhi Lopez, a radiant spirit full of love, laughter, and warmth, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2025, after a brave battle with kidney cancer. She was surrounded by her family in the comfort of her home in Boonton, New Jersey. Born on July 21, 1961, in Jersey City, New Jersey, to Sofia and Horacio Cartagena, Saudhi lived a life centered on family, community, and unwavering support for those she loved.

Above all else, Saudhi was a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, and a proud grandmother. Her family was the center of her universe, and she poured her heart into every role she played. Married to her beloved husband Julio Lopez for 37 years, their bond was a true partnership built on love, laughter, and mutual devotion. Together, they raised two daughters, Stephanie Calderon and Samantha Lopez, whom Saudhi cherished beyond words.

As a mother, Saudhi was deeply involved in every aspect of her daughters' lives. She was always present—on the sidelines of countless games, at school events, performances, and every extracurricular activity they participated in. She was their biggest fan, their motivator, and their guiding light. Her tireless support and enthusiasm shaped not only their childhoods, but the strong, confident women they became.

Though her grandchildren—Analia, Miguel III, and Julien Calderon—are still young, Saudhi made every effort to be a constant and loving presence in their lives. Whether through play, cuddles, visits, or simply spending time together, she filled their days with warmth and affection. Her nurturing spirit extended to everyone she loved—always ready to lend a hand, share her time, and give her whole heart. Her selfless dedication and joyful involvement in her family’s lives were the foundation of the love that surrounded her.

Professionally, she brought this same warmth and care to her work at John Hill School in Boonton, NJ, where she served as the cafeteria manager for many years. Her daily interactions with students and staff were filled with kindness and joy, and she was a beloved figure in the school community.

Saudhi also had a vibrant personality that lit up every room. A natural entertainer, she was the life of every party—always ready to dance, laugh, and make others feel at home. Family time, movie nights, and travel were among her greatest joys, and she created a lifetime of unforgettable memories with those she loved.

She is survived by her loving husband Julio Lopez, her daughters Stephanie (Miguel) Calderon and Samantha Lopez, and her cherished grandchildren Analia, Miguel III, and Julien Calderon. She also leaves behind her siblings: Maria Dolores Cartagena, Yves Vasquez, Sofia Cartagena, Horacio Cartagena Jr, Sigrid Cartagena, Maria Louisa Cartagena, Diana Camacho, and Vesper Cartagena.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 14, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Dangler Lewis & Carey Funeral Home in Boonton, NJ. All who knew and loved Saudhi are welcome to attend and share their memories of this extraordinary woman.

Saudhi Lopez’s legacy is one of unconditional love, unwavering support, and the kind of joy that lingers in the hearts of everyone she touched. Her memory will continue to inspire and comfort her family—and all who had the privilege to know her—for generations to come.
