Joseph J. Grob

April 28, 1944 – July 2, 2025

“He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” — Micah 6:8

With heavy hearts and enduring love, we announce the passing of Joseph J. Grob, a man who quietly and faithfully lived the wisdom of Micah 6:8. Joe died peacefully on July 2, 2025, surrounded by the family he so deeply cherished.

Born on April 28, 1944, in Richmond Hill, Queens, Joe was the beloved son of the late Genevieve and Charles Grob. He was a graduate of Power Memorial High School, St. John's University, and City College of New York. He spent his professional life as a bank auditor, known for his honesty, diligence, and humility.

Joe was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of the Lake Church in Sparta, New Jersey, and a former resident of both Sparta and Dumont, NJ. His faith and quiet integrity shaped every part of his life.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth (O'Leary) Grob. Joe and Elizabeth were married for 54 years, building a life together rooted in love, mutual respect, and perseverance. He was a proud and loving father to Eileen Marie (Grob) Vandenberg and her husband Dr. Michael P. Vandenberg, Joseph J. Grob and his wife Nicole McDermet, and Daniel J. Grob and his wife Christine Griffin.

Joe’s legacy continues through his five cherished grandchildren: Michael Joseph Vandenberg, Jude Vandenberg, Maeve Vandenberg, Alden Grob, and Nora Grob, each of whom brought him profound joy and pride.

He was predeceased by his siblings Charles Grob and Jane (Grob) Cantrelle, and is survived by Philip Grob and his wife Phyllis of Connecticut, and Dorothy (Grob) Zavattieri and her husband Salvatore of Toms River, NJ.

Joe was a man of quiet strength who lived not for recognition, but for his faith, his family, and the daily work of doing what was right. He did justice in his honesty, loved kindness in his gentleness, and walked humbly with his God throughout his life.

A true New Yorker at heart, Joe was also a lifelong and loyal New York Yankees fan. He took great joy in cheering on his team, especially when they were winning, and passed that love down to his grandchildren.

He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever honored.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 18 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Boonton, New Jersey. All are welcome to attend and honor Joe’s life of faith and love.
