Nancy McLarin, former resident of Mountain Lakes NJ passed away peacefully in Denville NJ on June 29, 2025 at the age of 98.
Nancy was born on May 20, 1927 in Orange NJ to Harold F and Olive A (Decker) Wilhelm. Nancy was raised in South Orange NJ and attended the Beard school before graduating from Wellesley College in 1949. Nancy married her husband Maitland McLarin on September 30, 1950. The couple lived in New Jersey, then Forth Worth TX, then Palmdale CA Later they resided in Huntsville AL before settling in Maitland's hometown of Mountain Lakes NJ in 1966. Nancy was an active volunteer, particularly in the local chapter of American Association of University Women (AAUW) and the MacDowell Club of Mountain Lakes. Her passions also included swimming, travel (family road trips) and local history. In their later years Nancy and Maitland spent much of their free time at a rustic lake cabin in northwest New Jersey. Nancy was also a long time member of the choir at St Peters Episcopal Church in Mountain Lakes. Nancy left her cherished Mountain Lakes home and moved to a senior living facility in Denville in 2002.
Survivors include her children Nancy Allen ("Lyn") McLarin (John Powell) of Bristol, UK and William Maitland ("Mac") McLarin (Anita McClintock) of Philadelphia PA as well as grandchildren Sara Corinne McLarin Hadden and Carter Alan McLarin as well as 3 great-grandchildren. Her beloved husband Maitland died in 1995. Nancy was also predeceased by her sister Margaret ("Peg") Wilhelm Pfaff and granddaughter Megan McLarin.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at St Peters Episcopal Church in Mountain Lakes NJ on Saturday September 20 at 3 PM. Donations can be made in her name to St Peters Church (215 Boulevard, Mountain Lakes NJ 07046).
