Obituary of Peggy Ann Van Riper
In Loving Memory of Peggy Ann Van Riper
We said goodbye to Peggy Ann Van Riper, 72, of Boonton Township, NJ, on June 2, 2025, after a brave and unwavering journey with cancer. Peggy was born on June 8, 1952, to Jeannie and Harold Strauss in Newark, NJ, and joined her brothers Andrew and Johnny to complete their family.
Peggy became a registered nurse and worked tirelessly for many years providing primary care to hundreds of patients. She later transitioned into plastic surgery, where she continued her compassionate care for several more years. Though she retired from nursing in her 40s, she maintained her medical knowledge and generously offered informal guidance to many throughout her life.
Later in life, Peggy owned a liquor store and bar in Montville with her husband, Harry, where they thrived in the community and made lifelong friends.
Peggy had two beloved children, Irene and Joanna, and enjoyed many joyful years with her grandchildren Brody, Emma, and Mabel. Her partner of more than three decades, Harry Van Riper, loved her with his whole heart and stood by her side through difficult times, sharing countless moments of laughter, dinner dates, games, and afternoons by the pool.
Peggy was best known for her firecracker personality, sharp wit, passion for cleanliness, and concern for others. She made a lasting impression on everyone she met and will live on in stories and memories forever.
A celebration of Peggy’s life will be held at Dangler, Lewis & Carey Funeral Home, 312 West Main Street, Boonton, NJ, on Friday, June 13, from 3 to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the V Foundation for Cancer Research in memory of Peggy at https://www.v.org./
