Obituary of Helena Catherine Meaney

Helena Catherine Meaney, 105, Boonton Township Helena Catherine Meaney, 105 , of Boonton Township , passed away on February 11, 2016 , at Victoria Mews Assisted Living Facility. Helena was born and raised in Bayonne, NJ and graduated from the Academy of St. Aloysius in Jersey City and Trenton Normal School (now College of New Jersey). She retired to Leisure Village East in Lakewood, NJ before moving to Boonton Township in 2009. Helena was very active in many clubs in Leisure Village, and participated in varied activities at Victoria Mews right up to her death. She was a world traveler visiting every continent with the exception of Antarctica. Helena's favorite travel memory was a Papal Audience with Pope John XXXIII. An avid bridge player, she enjoyed the game until the age of 100. Prior to her retirement , Helena was a social worker and Supervisor for the Hudson and Ocean County offices of the New Jersey Bureau of Child Welfare. Helena was predeceased by her parents Daniel and Helena Meaney , siblings James, George, Veronica Rounds , Marguerite Lynch and Irene Hakala , her nephews James Meaney and Morgan Meaney. Helena is survived by her nieces and nephews Peggy Smith, Kathleen Silbermann, Barbie Ann Rounds, Daniel Meaney, Robert Meaney, Carroll Foley and Thomas Hakala. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for Helena at 9:30 AM on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 910 Birch Street, Boonton, NJ. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, NJ. Arrangements are entrusted to Dangler, Lewis and Carey Funeral Home, 312 W. Main Street, Boonton, NJ 07005.
